
Obituary of Beverly Gauthier
Beverly Joseph Gauthier (Bev), 81, of Amherstview, ON, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025 at his home.
Bev was born in Montreal, QC to Edward and Lena (nee Odesse) on July 30, 1943. The first born of a large military family, Bev was fortunate to experience childhood and adolescence in many different locations including Ottawa, Washington DC and Montreal, as well as summers in his family’s home community of Penetanguishene, ON. An athlete in his youth, he excelled in football and was an offensive lineman in high school and university. He went on to earn degrees in both physics and education at both Ottawa University and Queen’s University, where he attained his master’s in education and where he met the love of his life as they both attended McArthur College in preparation for a career in education. He made his way through school through the Royal Canadian Air Force education program, after which he proudly served his country as an officer in the Air Force. He worked for 25 years as a teacher of math, science and physics After retirement, he embarked on a career that allowed him to work in the auto industry, another passion of his. He enjoyed sports and was a dedicated lifelong fan of the Montreal Canadiens. He was also a voracious reader who would devour books about astrophysics and spirituality. Bev was also a lover of film and music and was known for having eclectic tastes that ranged anywhere from Hank Williams to Black Sabbath.
Bev is survived by his loving wife Sherry (nee Burns) and his children Nikki (Tim) and Brad, all of Kingston. He is also survived by his siblings Dennis (Mary), Richard (Judy), Elaine Igoe (Michael), Andrew (Nancy), Carol David (Michel), Ann Savage (Michael), Theresa (Raymond) and Kathy Charbonneau (Luc) and many nieces and nephews. Bev was a lover of animals and over the years provided a happy home to many dogs, cats and even some rabbits. He will be missed by his current loyal furry friend Quinn. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents Edward (1998) and Lena (1980).
Memorial donations may be made to your local humane society or animal rescue shelter. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the wonderful staff at St. Elizabeth Healthcare as well as Lisa from Paramed. At Bev’s wishes, there will be no public service or viewing and a private event will occur at a later date.
