Obituary of Allen Ray Gilmour

Please share a memory of Allen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Allen Ray Gilmour

June 16, 1975 – December 25, 2022

Allen died unexpectedly at home from an undiagnosed health condition in the early hours of Christmas morning. He is survived by children Emma, 19, William, 6, and Athena, 4; sister Melissa, brother Matthew (Sarah), parents David Gilmour and Susan Hannah (Bob), nephews Owen and Carter, nieces Dahlia, Abby and Clare, and many aunts, uncles and cousins from Nova Scotia to British Columbia. He will be especially missed by best friends Cassandra Wiley, Todd Geran and Joe Robidoux.

As a son, a brother, a cousin, a father, an uncle, and a friend; Al was loved by all. He was proud of his kids and tried to do right by them. He did everything with passion and took great pride in his work. Al was a devoted Toronto Maple Leafs fan and an avid hunter and fisherman — following a proud Gilmour tradition from his dad and Grandpa Ira (Gilly). He will be sorely missed.

Ive know Allen for most of my life. Allen was a great friend to me. When I came back to Kingston in 2013 aftereaving an abusive relationship, he was there for me. He made me feel validated when I spoke about my feelings and fears. We spoke a couple times a month and I will miss these conversations. Allen loved his family and friends, especially his children. He always spoke about how proud he was of them and how lucky he felt to be their father. He had his struggles in life, but always tried to be better for himself and his family. I know he will be an Angel watching over Cassie and his children and everyone he loved. Fly high my friend! ❤

Although we weren't close friends, we knew Allan and his family, Matthew and Melissa, because of being sort of related through David's brother Bob, who was married to my first cousin, Heather Delve. We miss Bob terribly, so know how the family must be feeling during these first hard days. Time will help ease the pain of your loss, but the memories will always be there to back you up in the tough hours. We would see Allan once in a while at a family get together, although more Matthew and Melissa, through our friend Paulette Robideaux at her parties and SPCA and Humane Society fund raisers. We will continue to hold you all in our hearts and prayers, as you go through these hard times. Keep your memories close to your hearts. Eldon and Norah Curl (nee Hawley)

I was friends with Matt, and that meant that I came to know Allen. When we were younger things were different, times, experiences hardships and pain. Allen had his fair share. In time we came to talk sporadically on FB. When he would be worried, anxious or just working for change. I often reached out quietly to add encouragement and praise. I know how hard it is to step out of the shadows of who we were. To try and make things better. It's a constant struggle. I felt this year Allen had reached new heights and things were finally starting to put him in a better place. I will miss our quiet chats about who we were and how we want to be better men for ourselves and our loved ones. Allen loved his family and struggled with how best to show it. But from our conversations I knew it to be true and that despite setbacks and problems. He loved them all very much. I think that is what I will remember most. Allen was human, Allan made mistakes but he tried to be better. And thats more than most. I hope he can find peace.
